Measuring Information

Coat Size (Jacket):

Here's all the information you'll ever need to know about measuring yourself for a tuxedo. Of course it's always better to be measured professionally, in the event you must do it yourself, just follow the simple guidelines below.

Coat Size | Coat Length | Coat Sleeve Length | Pants/Waist
Pants Outseam | Shirt/Neck | Shirt/Sleeve

Coat Size (Jacket):

Remove any bulky sweaters or jackets. Place tape around the back (over the shoulder blades) around the sides to high beneath the under arms, around and over the front chest area. Insert finger between chest and tape for comfortable fit. This is the jacket size. Some men have unusually large chests and arms due to athletics and weight lifting. If this is the case do another measurement over the arms and across the chest. Subtract 9 inches from this measurement for a more accurate coat size for a very athletic physique.

Height (Coat Length):

Your height determines the length of your coat. Use the chart below to determine your coat length.

Coat Length
Height

Short
5’8” or less

Regular
5’9” to 5’11 ½

Long
6’ to 6’3 ½

X-Long
6’4” and over

Coat (Jacket) Sleeve Length (Insleeve):

Measure from the armpit seam down to the end of the sleeve. The jacket sleeve should end where your wrist breaks just below the inside bone on your wrist.

Pants/Waist:

Make sure there is no bulky material around waist such as a belt or sweater. Place tape slightly snug around the natural waist (above hipbone) at the level of the navel. This is your waist size.

Pants/Outseam:

Stand straight and look forward not down. Measure at the level of the natural waist from just above the hipbone. Extend the tape down the side of the leg to the outside of the shoe immediately above the heel. This is the outseam measurement.

Shirt/Neck:

Measure with the collar unbuttoned at the level collar would be if buttoned. Measure loose enough for 2 fingers to fit between tape and neck for a comfortable fit. This is your shirt neck size.

Shirt/Sleeve:

With the arm straight down at the side, place tape measure at the base of the neck in back. Extend tape measure across the top of the shoulder, around the elbow and down the arm to a point 1” past the wrist bone. This is the shirt sleeve length.
